How Vora was designed: on-demand storage instead of a classic rental

When people hear “storage,” most picture a classic self-storage warehouse: you drive to a location, rent a unit or locker on a monthly basis, and carry your things there and back yourself. That model has existed for decades and makes sense for some situations. But when we started thinking about Vora, we wanted to solve a different problem — one that classic storage often makes impractical.

The problem with classic storage

The biggest obstacle isn’t the price of the unit — it’s the logistics around it. You need a vehicle, you need time to move things over, and you need just as much effort getting them back. For someone storing seasonal gear or a few boxes during a move, that obstacle is often bigger than the actual need for space.

How we approached Vora’s design

Instead of having the customer come to the warehouse, we decided the warehouse should come to the customer — in the form of a courier. The whole process is designed to fit into a few steps, entirely from the app:

  1. Configure your package — enter the dimensions, weight, and storage period that suits you.
  2. Choose a courier and confirm your pickup address.
  3. Your package is collected and transported to our monitored warehouse.
  4. When you need it back, request a return and we arrange delivery.

This sequence is deliberately simple. Every status change on your package is logged, so you always know where your belongings are — no calls, no checking in.

Why flexibility instead of a fixed lease

Classic self-storage contracts often require a minimum period of several months, regardless of actual need. With Vora, the storage period ranges from one month to over a year, and can be adjusted at any time. You pay based on your package size and how long you store it — not on the size of a room you never fully filled.

Who this is most useful for

In practice, this model makes the most sense for:

  • freeing up space from things you rarely use,
  • student moves between semesters,
  • keeping furniture safe during a home renovation,
  • seasonal gear that takes up space out of season,
  • archiving business documents off-site.

The idea behind Vora is that storage should be something you set up in a few minutes on your phone — not a project that requires a vehicle, a free day, and a pre-booked monthly contract.
